Home Renovation Tips to Avoid Daily Regrets

2025-12-08 By Mason Gray3

During home renovation, you'll inevitably encounter situations where you "thought it was great at the time, but now regret it." However, understanding some common pitfalls beforehand can help you make wiser choices. Home renovation is a process where "details determine success or failure." Many people only realize after completion that their initial choices, made to save time and money, have become lingering regrets. In fact, many problems can be avoided by preventing them in advance, saving you time and money on rework. These mistakes may seem trivial, but they directly impact the comfort and happiness of your living space. Therefore, we should avoid them before starting renovations.

Under reasonable circumstances, the more electrical outlets, the better.

With rapid technological advancements and the proliferation of 3C products and kitchen appliances, the demand for power outlets is increasing. Therefore, within a reasonable installation range, install as many power outlets as possible for unforeseen needs. Otherwise, if there aren't enough outlets or their locations are unsuitable, you'll have to run extension cords, which not only affects aesthetics but also poses a tripping hazard, and adding more outlets afterward is a hassle.
Ideally, you should estimate the number and location of your electrical outlets based on your current appliances and those you might buy in the future, and pre-set dedicated circuits for high-power appliances. During installation, consider furniture placement to avoid blocking outlets and affecting usability.

Even small bathrooms should have a wet/dry separation design

A wet/dry separation design in the bathroom effectively prevents slippery floors after showering, posing a safety hazard to the elderly and children. It also facilitates cleaning and reduces mold growth. Some people believe that only large bathrooms can achieve wet/dry separation, but this is a misconception. Even small bathrooms can achieve this through clever design. For example, you can forgo a bathtub and replace it with a shower, using floor level differences or glass partitions to divide the dry and wet areas.

Install a double-control switch by the bedside in the bedroom so you don't have to get up to turn off the lights before bed

Generally, light switches are installed near the entrance, but this is inconvenient for bedrooms. Having to get up to turn off the lights and then fumble around in the dark before going to bed is a real hassle. Especially in the cold winter, it's a real ordeal. Therefore, in addition to the light switch at the door, a "double-control switch" should be added to the bedside. This means the same light can be controlled by these switches, allowing you to easily turn the light on and off from bed.

Ceiling fans promote air circulation and save space

Ceiling fans not only enhance indoor air convection but also effectively cool the room and alleviate stuffiness. Compared to electric fans, a major advantage is that they don't take up floor space, and even if they're not used in winter, there's no need to find a separate storage place. Moreover, ceiling fans on the market now come in a variety of shapes and styles, allowing you to choose one that matches your home style, beautifying the space and enhancing comfort.

Neglecting space for hobbies leads to clutter

If you only consider "basic living" during renovation and neglect storage for your hobbies, your home will become cluttered over time. A bookshelf wall and a display cabinet not only store books, figurines, tea sets, and other collectibles but also serve as a "personal statement" for your home.
Tips to avoid pitfalls: Plan your hobby areas in advance – if you love reading, dedicate a wall to bookshelves; if you love collecting figurines, customize a display cabinet with glass doors; even if you just like plants, you can reserve wall space to hang greenery paintings to make the space warmer.
